AI in Everyday Life

I asked ChatGPT to build my dream-life plan — and was stunned by the result

Two prompts: a coaching interview that separates your real goal from the imposed one, and a meticulous step-by-step plan at your pace. With a guide and a "3 actions tomorrow" start.

I asked ChatGPT to build my dream-life plan — and was stunned by the result

01 — The block

Why is "what do I want?" the hardest question?

I recently stumbled on an old fact: a person makes 35,000 decisions a day. (I seem to exceed the quota 😂) And it explains a lot.

For instance — why we stall exactly when we genuinely want to change something. We sit down, open the laptop… and instead of a step forward we slide into a "reflection minute": "So what do I actually want?..", "Maybe it's not the right time," "Maybe I should journal it all first, or buy another course?"

In short: we're just people with too many open tabs in our heads. And sometimes we want something simple and human: order, less chaos, clear priorities. The problem is that this conversation doesn't work solo — you need an interlocutor who asks the right questions and doesn't let you wriggle away. ChatGPT does that job surprisingly well.

02 — The mechanic

How does the two-prompt session work?

The usual ask

"Build me a plan to achieve goal X" → the AI builds a beautiful plan toward a goal that may not be yours at all — imposed by your environment, trends, or "shoulds."

The session

Interview first: up to 10 questions that separate the real goal from the "correct but uninspiring" one. Only then — the plan. Toward a goal that passed the test.

The order is the whole point: a plan toward someone else's goal is the most beautiful way to waste a year. That's why the first prompt doesn't even ask "what's your goal" — it asks what you think about most, what you're afraid to admit, and what you keep postponing because it matters too much.

The three steps
Step 1. The interview prompt → answer one question at a time
Step 2. Answer at length (hack: by voice, via transcription —
you can record 10-minute answers without limits)
Step 3. The plan prompt → a meticulous plan at your pace

03 — Prompt 1

Which questions separate your goal from the imposed one?

The first prompt in full:

You are a wise interlocutor and coach — attentive and deeply
understanding. Your task is to lead me through a series of
questions (up to 10) that help me honestly and deeply understand:
what I really want, what drives me, and what my true goal is.

Before starting, clarify:
1. What horizon am I searching on: short-term (1–6 months),
medium (1–3 years) or a life path?
2. In which area? (work, relationships, health, creativity,
   personality, spirituality)
3. Am I ready to be completely honest with myself?
4. Do I prefer a gentle, direct or provocative style?

Then ask one question at a time from the list below, never moving
on until I answer:
1. What do I think about most often? What of it gives me energy?
2. If fear, money and others' opinions didn't exist — what would I do?
3. Which of my goals are actually imposed from outside?
4. Which goal seems "correct" but doesn't inspire me?
5. What am I afraid to admit even to myself that I want?
6. What do I keep postponing because it matters too much?
7. What would I do the morning after achieving everything?
8. Was there a moment I felt: "this is mine"?
9. Which 1–3 values matter most to me?
10. Based on all this, how do I state my true goal in one sentence?

Then ask one final question:
✨ Imagine you're living your dream three years from now. Describe
that day: where you are, with whom, what you're doing, how you feel.

Note questions 3–5: they do the work nobody usually does. "Which goal seems correct but doesn't inspire me" — that one question exposes half the borrowed goals on our lists.

04 — Prompt 2

How do you turn the found goal into a meticulous plan?

When the interview is done and the goal is stated — the second prompt, same chat:

Now, based on our whole conversation, build the most detailed,
clear, meticulous step-by-step plan toward my true goal — at my
pace and grounded in my real life.

Plan structure:
- Global stages in plain words, with examples — nothing abstract.
- Break each stage into small sub-steps I can do gradually
(like: "create the structure → pick the platform → write the
  first draft").
- State how I'll know each stage is done.
- Account for my fears and values from the interview: where I'm
likely to stall — and what to do about it.

At the end, pick the simplest actions from the plan that I can
do tomorrow:
- 3 actions of 5–10 minutes each,
- no complex tools,
- that create a feeling of progress.

The final block is the most important part. A plan without "three actions tomorrow" stays a beautiful document. Three 5–10-minute actions are the defense against every plan's main enemy: "I'll start on Monday."

05 — The guide

How do you run the session start to finish?

Set aside a calm 30–40 minutes — and walk the steps:

Send prompt 1. The model asks the horizon, the area and the style — answer honestly. Pick "provocative" and the questions get tougher, but the findings go deeper. There's nobody to lie to: only you see this conversation.

My hack: turn on your phone's mic, speak the answers and transcribe — you can record 10-minute answers without limits. You're more honest and more detailed out loud than typing.

The interview's final question — imagining an ordinary day of your dream — isn't mysticism: a detailed picture of the day is the best goal test there is. If you don't want to live that day, the goal isn't yours — better to learn that now.

Same chat — prompt 2. Check that the plan uses your interview answers (fears, values, pace) rather than reading like a generic internet list. If it's generic — ask it to tie every stage to your answers.

Take the three 5–10-minute actions from the final block — and do them tomorrow. Not "this week." Tomorrow. That's what moves the plan from the "documents" category into the "life" category.

06 — Afterwards

What do you do with the plan in a week — and in a month?

The session isn't one-off magic — it's the start of a cycle. To keep the plan alive:

  • Interview done honestly; the goal stated in one sentence
  • The plan is tied to my answers, not generic
  • The three 5–10-minute actions were done the next day
  • Weekly — 10 minutes in the same chat: what's done, what's stuck, what changes
  • In a month — re-ask "does this goal still light me up?" (adjusting is normal)
  • Asked the model to hand me tasks in steps small enough that I won't bail
Takeaway

The real value of this session isn't the plan — it's the interview before it: 10 questions separating your goal from the imposed one. The rest is craft: a meticulous plan at your pace and three 5–10-minute actions tomorrow. Give it one evening — this conversation with yourself gets postponed for years, and takes half an hour.

FAQ

How is this different from "set me a SMART goal"?

SMART formats a goal but doesn't check whose goal it is. Here, the first prompt is an interview hunting for the real one — through questions about energy, fears, what's imposed, and "correct but uninspiring." The plan is built only after that check — which is why you actually want to follow it.

Do I have to answer by voice?

No, but voice is far better: answers come out several times richer and more honest — a conversation, not a form. Use dictation or record voice notes and transcribe. With three-word typed answers, the interview loses most of its depth.

What if the interview reveals my goal was imposed?

That's the best possible outcome: you learned it in an evening, not after a year of working toward someone else's goal. Continue the interview — questions 5–8 (afraid to admit, postponing, "this is mine") usually surface the real goal. Only then build the plan.

How personal can I get with ChatGPT in a session like this?

Your call: the interview works on honesty of substance, without documents or sensitive details like diagnoses or financial data. Many people actually find it easier to be honest with an AI than with a person — that's the session's strength. But you set the comfort line.
